We investigated the emotions people reliably recognize in the tune, rhythm, and timbre of speech. To do so, we analyzed US and Indian judgments of 2519 speech samples. We discovered that across cultures, people recognize 12 dimensions of emotion from the tune, rhythm, and timbre of speech alone. (Cowen et al., 2019, Nature Hum Beh)
